Oahu, Hawaii

Language

  • English is widely spoken on Oahu, but you’ll also encounter Hawaiian phrases, especially in cultural sites and local businesses. Learning a few words like Aloha (hello) and Mahalo (thank you) can enhance your experience.

Time Zone

  • Oahu operates on Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (HAST), which is UTC -10. Oahu doesn’t observe Daylight Saving Time, so it’s four hours behind Salt Lake City Mountain Time for most of the year.

Electricity

  • Oahu uses Type A and Type B power sockets, the same as the rest of the United States. The standard voltage is 120V, and the frequency is 60Hz. Most U.S. devices will work without a converter.

Climate

  • Oahu enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, averaging between 70-85°F. The island experiences a wet and dry season, with the wettest months typically from November to March. The leeward (west and south) side tends to be drier, while the windward (north and east) side is greener and wetter.

Health

  • While medical insurance is not required to visit Oahu, it’s highly recommended to ensure coverage in case of emergencies. The island has several hospitals and medical centers available. https://www.travelexinsurance.com/homepage?location=44-0110&go=bp

Tips

  • Tipping is appreciated on Oahu and follows the standard U.S. practice. Leave 15-20% for good service at restaurants, and consider tipping hotel staff, tour guides, and taxi drivers for exceptional service.

Currency

  • The official currency of Oahu is the U.S. Dollar (USD). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s a good idea to carry some cash for smaller local businesses and food trucks, especially in more rural areas.

Nature and Wildlife

  • Oahu’s diverse landscapes include lush rainforests, volcanic craters, and pristine beaches. Follow Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the island’s natural beauty—stay on marked trails and avoid disturbing wildlife.

Beaches and Ocean Safety

  • Oahu’s beaches are famous worldwide, but the ocean can have strong currents, especially during winter on the north shore. Swim at lifeguarded beaches, check surf conditions, and heed posted warnings to stay safe.

Sunscreen

  • Hawaii has banned sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate to protect its coral reefs. Be sure to use reef-safe sunscreen to protect both your skin and the marine environment.

Australia

Language

  • The official language of Australia is English. You may notice some unique Aussie slang, but overall, communication should be easy for English speakers.

Time Zone

  • Australia spans multiple time zones. For example, Sydney is 18 hours ahead of Salt Lake City’s Mountain Time. Be sure to check the local time for your destination city.

Electricity

  • Australia uses Type I outlets with a standard voltage of 230V. If your electronics have a different plug type, bring a power adapter and check if a voltage converter is needed.

Climate

  • Australia’s climate varies greatly depending on the region and season. In February (summer in Australia), cities like Sydney can expect highs around 79°F (26°C) and lows near 66°F (19°C). Pack for warm weather and sun protection.

Health

  • Travel insurance that includes medical coverage is strongly recommended. Australia has excellent healthcare, but visitors will typically pay out-of-pocket without insurance. Purchase travel insurance here.

Currency

  • The official currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD). The exchange rate fluctuates, but currently, $1 USD is approximately equal to 1.52 AUD.

Transportation

  • Australia's major cities have reliable public transportation, including buses, trains, and ferries. Consider getting a local transit card (like the Opal card in Sydney) to make getting around easier and more cost-effective.

Safety

  • Australia is considered very safe for travelers. As with any destination, stay aware of your surroundings, especially in busy tourist spots or at night.

Local Cuisine

  • Be sure to try local favorites like meat pies, barramundi, pavlova, and Vegemite (if you’re feeling adventurous). Australia also has a strong café culture and excellent coffee.

Cultural Etiquette

  • Australians tend to be informal and friendly. A simple “hello” or “hi” is acceptable when greeting someone. It’s common to say “thank you” to bus drivers or service staff.

Tipping

  • Tipping is not mandatory in Australia, but it is appreciated for good service. Rounding up the bill or leaving around 10% at restaurants is considered generous.

New Zealand

Language

  • The official languages of New Zealand are English, Māori, and New Zealand Sign Language. English is widely spoken, so communication should be smooth for most travelers.

Time Zone

  • New Zealand is 19 hours ahead of Salt Lake City’s Mountain Time. Keep the time difference in mind when planning calls or travel connections.

Electricity

  • New Zealand uses Type I outlets with a standard voltage of 230V. Bring an adapter if your electronics have a different plug type, and check if you need a voltage converter.

Climate

  • New Zealand’s climate is generally mild but varies by region. In February (summer in NZ), expect average highs around 72°F (22°C) and lows near 57°F (14°C). Be prepared for both sunshine and sudden rain.

Health

  • Travel insurance is recommended. New Zealand has a strong healthcare system, but international visitors will typically need to pay for services unless covered by insurance. Purchase travel insurance here.

Currency

  • The official currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZD). Exchange rates fluctuate, but currently, $1 USD is approximately equal to 1.64 NZD.

Transportation

  • New Zealand’s cities have public buses, and long-distance travel is often done by car, coach, or domestic flights. Renting a car or campervan is a popular and flexible way to explore the country.

Safety

  • New Zealand is one of the safest travel destinations in the world. Still, use common sense, especially in remote areas or when hiking. Always check weather and safety alerts before outdoor adventures.

Local Cuisine

  • Try iconic Kiwi dishes like fish and chips, lamb, meat pies, and pavlova. Don’t miss out on seafood and Māori hangi meals (food cooked in an earth oven). Great coffee and local wines are also a highlight.

Cultural Etiquette

  • Kiwis are friendly and laid-back. It’s polite to greet people with a smile and a simple “hello.” Respect for Māori culture is important—learn a few Māori words like “kia ora” (hello) and “ka pai” (well done).

Tipping

  • Tipping is not expected in New Zealand, but it is appreciated for excellent service. Rounding up the bill or leaving 5–10% at restaurants is a nice gesture.

Our Happy Clients

All the details were taken care of. Our tour guide was personable, knows the history and all of the interesting facts, entertaining, and gracious. This is our first tour with Evolution35, but it won’t be our last. We are already planning our next trip to Italy with them.

- Stefan and Molly

Our Happy Clients

I was very pleased with the service that I received from evolution35 travel company. Our 9 day trip to Cancún was wonderful time in this beautiful country. The resorts that evolution35 chose for our stay were all wonderful! Evolution35 people was in constant communication with us via email and WhatsApp asking how the trip was going and if we had any concerns or requests and when I did have a request they responded immediately and took care of it. Everything including tours and transportation were taken care of for us so it was very relaxing knowing we did not have to think about anything except when and where we were going next. Evolution35 also worked hard to ensure that we have a wonderful time during our stay in Cancun an that we return home safe. We are planing a trip to Costa Rica with Evolution35 in October.

- Jose Ruiz

Our Happy Clients

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there. The Eifel Tower was amazing but felt a little rushed. The dinner on the Seine was excellent. Thank you for a great trip.

- Richard Leake

Our Happy Clients

Evolution35 Paris tour was an unforgettable experience. Our tour guide, Pedro, was spectacular. He is very knowledgeable and personable. He treated us like family. The tour was a happy balance between guided sightseeing tours and free time. We had so much fun that we can't wait to see what other tours Evolution35 offer.

- Kenneth S Davis

Our Happy Clients

Absolutely loved my travel experience to Paris with Evolution 35. Everything was meticulously planned and well organized. Our tour guide, Pedro, was the best. We will definitely be traveling with them again.

- Tammy Cooper

Our Happy Clients

We did the Costa Rica trip and it was incredible. Zipline, rainforest, boat rides, catamaran. It
was soooo much trip for the money. Loved the hotel Tabacón with the hot springs and the
Westin was also 5 star! You go from the Carribean side to the Pacific. It's the trip of a
lifetime. Well done evolution35

- Jason Shamy

Our Happy Clients

Evolution35 made our dream vacation come true! Great package price inclusive of airfare, 5
star hotel, transportation, meals, and excursions. I did not have to do anything. Everything
was planned ahead for me under one affordable price. We had a blast and are looking
forward to booking again with evolution35! Evolution35 is the way to vacation!!!!!!

- ANALIS CARATTINI-RUIZ

Our Happy Clients

Fantastic trip to Paris with Evolution 35. Between booking our trip and the time we left, we had lots of questions and they were always so quick to respond to our emails. It was so wonderful that they took care of many details of our trip for us, especially the first couple of days as we were getting oriented in a foreign place! Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. He helped us stay safe and have a lot of fun too! A great experience for us!

- Jenny Leake

Our Happy Clients

¡Gracias!
