In Belize prepare for warm and humid weather. When visiting be sure to buy bug repellant as there are lots of mosquitos all over Belize especially in the forest. When visiting the islands of the coast of Belize be sure to bring clothing that accommodates water activities.

Will I need travel insurance?

While travel insurance is not required, it is highly recommended, especially if you plan to engage in adventure activities like diving or ziplining. Is tipping customary?

After a private transfer from Belize Airport, we will arrive at the hotel in San Ignacio and meet for a welcome briefing in the hotel conference room. This cave contains a main chamber filled with rocks lined up which is believed to have been used for sacred Mayan rituals dating from the middle preclassic period (900-300BC) to the late classic period (700-850AD). Also, there are many chambers found high up within the cave which contain many large pottery vessels which may have been used to collect 'pure water' to be used for their rituals.

We will enjoy some site seeing for about two hours. Cahal Pech is a Maya site located near the town of San Ignacio in the Cayo District of Belize. The site was a palatial, hilltop home for an elite Maya family, and through the most major construction dates to the Classic period, evidence of continuous habitation has been dated to as far back as 1200 BCE during the Early Middle Formative period (Early Middle Preclassic), making Cahal Pech one of the oldest recognizably Maya sites in Western Belize.

This transfer will take 20 minutes.

Our tour session will last 45 minutes. Ajaw Chocolate traditional Chocolate making tour is based on a process that dates back to 2,000 B.C. and includes learning how the bean is farmed as well as how it is prepared for chocolate making. The main focus is crushing cacao beans on a Mano and Matte. They crush the beans to a paste and then dissolve it in hot water. Honey is then added as a sweetener and chile for flavoring. A second drink is prepared with this cacao paste dissolved in water and sweetened with honey but flavored with cinnamon and spice instead of chile. At the end of this session, we will share a small sample of milk and dark chocolate from Ajaw Chocolate.

This transfer will take about 30 minutes.

This tour will last two hours. Xunantunich is an Ancient Maya archaeological site in western Belize, about 70 miles (110 km) west of Belize City, in the Cayo District. Xunantunich is located atop a ridge above the Mopan River, well within sight of the Guatemala border – which is a mere 0.6 miles (1 km) to the west.

This transfer will take about 15 minutes.

We will be visiting Barton Creek for one hour and 30 minutes. Barton Creek Cave is a natural cave located near San Ignacio that was once used by the ancient Maya for ceremonial activities. This cave can only be explored by canoe and is considered one of Belize’s most fascinating natural and cultural wonders. Barton Creek Cave tour. After entering the cave, you will travel approximately a mile along a meandering river flowing through the beautiful cathedral-like chambers and wide passages of the cavern.

Lamanai (from Lama'anayin, "submerged crocodile" in Yucatec Maya) is a Mesoamerican archaeological site and was once a major city of the Maya civilization, located in the north of Belize, in Orange Walk District. The site's name is pre-Columbian, recorded by early Spanish missionaries, and documented over a millennium earlier in Maya inscriptions as Lam'an'ain. Lamanai is renowned for its exceptionally long occupation spanning three millennia, beginning in the Early Pre-classic Maya period and continuing through the Spanish and British Colonial periods, into the 20th century.[1] Unlike most Classic-period sites in the southern Maya lowlands, Lamanai was not abandoned at the end of the 10th century AD.

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC.
