Bahamas, Puerto Rico & Dominican Republic Cruise

Language

  • The official language in the Bahamas is English, while Puerto Rico recognizes both Spanish and English as official languages. In the Dominican Republic, the official language is Spanish.

Time Zone

  • All three destinations are in the Atlantic Time Zone, which is 2 hours ahead of Salt Lake City’s Mountain Time.

Electricity

  • The Bahamas and Puerto Rico use Type A and Type B outlets (same as the U.S., 120V). The Dominican Republic also uses Type A and B plugs, but power fluctuations can occur, so consider bringing a surge protector.

Climate

  • These Caribbean destinations enjoy a tropical climate year-round with warm temperatures and high humidity. Expect sunny days with possible afternoon showers, especially during the rainy season (May–November). Lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended.

Health

  • Medical insurance is recommended when cruising. Stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and apply insect repellent in tropical areas. Cruise ships have medical facilities for basic care, but serious medical needs may require treatment onshore.

Tips

  • Tipping is customary for tour guides, drivers, and hotel or restaurant staff. On the cruise, gratuities are often included or added automatically, but it’s still appreciated to tip extra for exceptional service during excursions.

Currency

  • The Bahamas uses the Bahamian Dollar (BSD), which is equal in value to the U.S. Dollar and accepted everywhere. Puerto Rico uses the U.S. Dollar (USD), while the Dominican Republic uses the Dominican Peso (DOP), with an exchange rate of approximately 1 USD to 59 DOP. It’s recommended to carry small bills for local markets and taxis.

Water Safety

  • Drink only bottled or filtered water in the Dominican Republic. Tap water in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico is generally safe in hotels, but bottled water is still recommended for sensitive travelers.

Transportation

  • At port, taxis, private shuttles, and guided excursions are widely available. Always confirm the fare before starting your ride, as meters are uncommon. Ride-sharing apps are limited outside Puerto Rico.

Dress Code

  • Beachwear is fine in resort and coastal areas, but modest clothing is appreciated in towns and religious sites. When visiting churches or historic sites, avoid wearing swimsuits or revealing attire.

Local Etiquette

  • Island culture is friendly and laid-back. A warm smile and polite greeting go a long way. Avoid discussing politics in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and always ask before photographing locals.

Safety

  • These islands are generally safe for tourists, but remain alert in crowded areas and markets. Keep valuables secured and avoid isolated beaches after dark.

Shopping

  • Duty-free shopping is popular at cruise ports. Haggling is acceptable in local markets but not in official stores. Local crafts, rum, and handmade jewelry make great souvenirs.

Our Happy Clients

I was very pleased with the service that I received from evolution35 travel company. Our 9 day trip to Cancún was wonderful time in this beautiful country. The resorts that evolution35 chose for our stay were all wonderful! Evolution35 people was in constant communication with us via email and WhatsApp asking how the trip was going and if we had any concerns or requests and when I did have a request they responded immediately and took care of it. Everything including tours and transportation were taken care of for us so it was very relaxing knowing we did not have to think about anything except when and where we were going next. Evolution35 also worked hard to ensure that we have a wonderful time during our stay in Cancun an that we return home safe. We are planing a trip to Costa Rica with Evolution35 in October.

Our Happy Clients

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there. The Eifel Tower was amazing but felt a little rushed. The dinner on the Seine was excellent. Thank you for a great trip.

We did the Costa Rica trip and it was incredible. Zipline, rainforest, boat rides, catamaran. It
was soooo much trip for the money. Loved the hotel Tabacón with the hot springs and the
Westin was also 5 star! You go from the Carribean side to the Pacific. It's the trip of a
lifetime. Well done evolution35

Our Happy Clients

Fantastic trip to Paris with Evolution 35. Between booking our trip and the time we left, we had lots of questions and they were always so quick to respond to our emails. It was so wonderful that they took care of many details of our trip for us, especially the first couple of days as we were getting oriented in a foreign place! Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. He helped us stay safe and have a lot of fun too! A great experience for us!

Our Happy Clients

¡Gracias!
