Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Language

  • The official language of the United Arab Emirates is Arabic, but English is widely spoken in Dubai, especially in hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourist areas. Signs, menus, and public transport information are often available in both Arabic and English.

Time Zone

  • Dubai operates on Gulf Standard Time (GST), which is 10 hours ahead of Salt Lake City Mountain Time. Note that the UAE does not observe Daylight Saving Time, so the time difference remains consistent year-round.

Electricity

  • The power plug sockets used in Dubai are Type G, with a standard voltage of 230V. If your devices use a different plug type, bring a universal adapter.

Climate

  • Dubai has a desert climate. Summers (May–September) are extremely hot, with temperatures often exceeding 105°F (40°C). Winters (November–March) are much milder, with daytime temperatures averaging 70–80°F (21–27°C). Rain is rare but usually occurs between December and March. Always check the forecast before your trip, especially if you’re planning outdoor activities.

Health

  • No vaccinations are required to enter Dubai. The healthcare system is modern and of high quality, with many international-standard hospitals and clinics. Travel health insurance is strongly recommended, as medical care can be expensive for visitors. Pharmacies are widespread and well-stocked.

Tips

  • Tipping is not mandatory in Dubai but is appreciated. In restaurants, 10–15% is common if service is good. Rounding up taxi fares or leaving small change for hotel staff is also customary.

Currency

  • The official currency in Dubai is the United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED). 1 US dollar is approximately equal to 3.67 AED. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, though carrying some cash is useful for smaller purchases, souks, or taxis.

Transportation

  • Dubai has an extensive and modern transport system. The metro, buses, trams, and water taxis make it easy to get around. Taxis are plentiful and relatively affordable, and ride-hailing apps like Uber and Careem are widely used. Renting a car is also an option, but driving can be challenging due to heavy traffic.

Dress Code

  • Dubai is cosmopolitan, but modest dress is expected in public places. Shoulders and knees should generally be covered, especially in malls, government buildings, or traditional areas. Swimwear is acceptable at beaches, pools, and resorts. When visiting mosques, women are required to cover their hair, arms, and legs, while men should avoid shorts.

Safety

  • Dubai is considered one of the safest cities in the world, with very low crime rates. However, follow local laws carefully—rules on alcohol consumption, public displays of affection, and disrespectful behavior are strict and penalties can be severe. Always respect cultural norms.

Local Etiquette

  • Greetings are typically a handshake between men. Between men and women, it is polite to wait and see if a hand is extended first. Hospitality is highly valued; it’s common to be offered tea or coffee when visiting someone’s home or a traditional shop. Public behavior should remain respectful, and avoid loud or disruptive conduct.

National Holidays

  • The UAE observes both Islamic and national holidays. Dates of Islamic holidays such as Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha vary each year based on the lunar calendar. Other notable holidays include UAE National Day (December 2nd). During Ramadan, eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours is prohibited.

Maldives

Language

  • The official language in the Maldives  is Dhivehi or Maldivian, an Indo-Aryan language closely related to the Sinhala language of Sri Lanka.  although many locals speak English.

Time Zone

  • The Maldives are 6 hours ahead of our local Salt Lake City mountain time zone.

Electricity

  • There are two associated plug types in the Maldives, Type D and C. Be sure to purchase an adapter or wall socket when traveling from the USA.

Climate

Health

  • Medical insurance is recommended when traveling to The Maldives but not required. https://www.travelexinsurance.com/homepage?location=44-0110&go=bp

  • Take note that although all tourism workers are paid a fixed salary, tips are used as their main income. It is considerate to tip your tourism workers although it is not required. Tourism workers should only be tipped if exceptional service is provided.

Currency

  • Bali's currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa  (MVR). 1 US dollars equal approximately = 15.4 MVR.

Packing Tips

  • Pack lightweight, breathable clothes for the warm climate and modest attire for visits to local islands. Reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are essential for sun protection, and a reusable water bottle helps keep you hydrated. Many resorts encourage a barefoot lifestyle, so comfortable sandals are all you need. For frequent snorkelers or divers, consider bringing your own gear.

Food or Drink

  • Try traditional Maldivian dishes like Mas Huni (tuna and coconut) or Garudhiya (fish soup) for a taste of local culture. Tap water isn’t safe to drink, so rely on bottled or filtered water provided by resorts. Alcohol is available only in resorts or liveaboard boats due to local customs.

Respecting the Enviornment

  • Protect the Maldives’ natural beauty by using reef-safe sunscreen and avoiding single-use plastics. Participate in eco-friendly initiatives offered by resorts to help preserve the environment. When snorkeling or diving, follow guidelines to avoid damaging coral or disturbing marine life.

Our Happy Clients

I was very pleased with the service that I received from evolution35 travel company. Our 9 day trip to Cancún was wonderful time in this beautiful country. The resorts that evolution35 chose for our stay were all wonderful! Evolution35 people was in constant communication with us via email and WhatsApp asking how the trip was going and if we had any concerns or requests and when I did have a request they responded immediately and took care of it. Everything including tours and transportation were taken care of for us so it was very relaxing knowing we did not have to think about anything except when and where we were going next. Evolution35 also worked hard to ensure that we have a wonderful time during our stay in Cancun an that we return home safe. We are planing a trip to Costa Rica with Evolution35 in October.

Our Happy Clients

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there. The Eifel Tower was amazing but felt a little rushed. The dinner on the Seine was excellent. Thank you for a great trip.

- Richard Leake

Our Happy Clients

Our Happy Clients

We did the Costa Rica trip and it was incredible. Zipline, rainforest, boat rides, catamaran. It
was soooo much trip for the money. Loved the hotel Tabacón with the hot springs and the
Westin was also 5 star! You go from the Carribean side to the Pacific. It's the trip of a
lifetime. Well done evolution35

- Jason Shamy

Our Happy Clients

Fantastic trip to Paris with Evolution 35. Between booking our trip and the time we left, we had lots of questions and they were always so quick to respond to our emails. It was so wonderful that they took care of many details of our trip for us, especially the first couple of days as we were getting oriented in a foreign place! Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. He helped us stay safe and have a lot of fun too! A great experience for us!

Our Happy Clients

¡Gracias!
