The official language in Jordan is Arabic although English is widely spoken especially in the city.

Time Zone

Jordan is 9 hours ahead of our Salt Lake City mountain time.

Electricity

Be aware that Jordan's electrical current requires a rounded two prong wall plug.

Climate

It is important to remember that Jordan is very dry and has hot summers with cooler evenings and warm winters. Ensure you pack clothes that are accustomed for this weather and outdoor activities.

Health

No vaccinations are necessary to travel here.
It is recommended to drink bottled water although it is safe to shower and brush your teeth using tap water.

Tips

Take note that although all tourism workers are paid a fixed salary, tips are used as their main income. It is considerate to tip your tourism workers although it is not required. Tourism workers should only be tipped if exceptional service is provided.

Currency

The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar, JD. 71 JD is equal to 100 US dollars. Dollars are widely accepted throughout Jordan.

How should I dress when visiting the Middle East?

Loose fitting clothing is best. Shoulders should be covered, skirts and dresses should dover the knee but longer is best. Avoid wearing tight fitting, revealing and sheer clothing. Shawls, cardigans and scarves are great to have on hand. Remember, people dress much more conservative in this part of the world.

How many seasons do Israel and Jordan have?

It is important to note that there are only two distinct seasons. A cool, rainy Winter (October - April) and a dry, hot summer (May - September).

How should I dress for the Winter season?

Be sure to pack a waterproof jacket, cardigan, long pants, boots, sturdy sneakers, long sleeves, a scarf and warm socks.

How should I dress for the Summer season?

Stick to lightweight and breathable fabrics. Bring along loose fitting tops, flowy dresses, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. Remember, this part of the world dresses more modestly.

Is there a dress code when visiting holy places?

You should cover your knees and shoulders when visiting places like The Western Wall, churches of the city, and other sacred locations.

Day 4 -Holy Land Jerusalem and Petra Travel Tour 28

The day will begin with the departure to the Old City to visit the Wailing Wall. Then we will walk the Via Dolorosa to reach Golgotha. This is the location of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the location of the Holy Sepulchre. We will visit Mount Zion where the Tomb of King David is located, the Cenacle which is the place of the Last Supper where "The Eucharist" was presented and "Pentecost" began. We will also visit the Dormition Abbey, which is supposed to be where the Assumption of Mary was located. We will continue walking towards the Mount of Olives to see and appreciate the magnificent view of the city. Finally, we will visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Basilica of Agony.
