What is the Time Zone?

  • Reykjavik operates on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and does not observe daylight saving time. This means it is 7 hours ahead of Salt Lake City mountain time during daylight saving time and 8 hours ahead during standard time.

Will I need an adapter/converter for Electricity?

  • Iceland uses Type C and F outlets with a standard voltage of 230V. Bring an adapter if your electronics use a different plug type, and check voltage compatibility for your devices.

What is the climate like?

  • The climate in Reykjavik varies by season. For example, February sees temperatures ranging from a high of 37°F (3°C) to a low of 28°F (-2°C). Be prepared for unpredictable weather and pack warm layers, waterproof gear, and sturdy shoes.

Will I need insurance?

  • Medical insurance is recommended when traveling to Iceland but not required. You can find that here.

Is tipping customary?

  • Tipping in Iceland is not obligatory, as service charges are included in your bill. However, leaving small change or rounding up is appreciated for excellent service.

What is the currency?

  • The official currency in Reykjavik is the Icelandic Krona (ISK). The exchange rate varies, but as of now, $1 USD is approximately equal to 136 ISK. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, even for small purchases.

What is the Cultural Etiquette?

  • Icelanders value politeness and personal space. Greeting someone with "Halló" or "Góðan daginn" (Good day) is appreciated. Removing your shoes when entering someone’s home is customary.

What is the Local Cuisine?

  • Try Icelandic delicacies like lamb stew, fresh fish, and Skyr (a traditional yogurt-like product). For adventurous eaters, Hákarl (fermented shark) is a unique experience. Many restaurants offer daily specials or set menus featuring local ingredients.

Iceland

Do I need cash when traveling to Iceland?

Iceland is largely cashless, so you won’t need much physical currency. Credit cards (especially Visa and MasterCard) are accepted almost everywhere, even for small purchases.

How Big is Iceland?

Iceland is larger than many expect, covering about 40,000 square miles. The famous Ring Road, which circles the island, stretches roughly 830 miles.

Is it required to tip in Iceland?

Tipping is not expected, as service charges are typically included in bills. While locals rarely tip, some visitors choose to leave a small amount for exceptional service.

What currency is used in Iceland?

The official currency is the Icelandic Króna (ISK).

Do I need a visa to visit Iceland?

U.S. citizens can visit Iceland for up to 90 days without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. You can check requirements here.

What season is the best to visit Iceland?

The best time to visit depends on your interests. Summer offers long daylight hours and easier travel, while winter provides opportunities to see the Northern Lights and snowy landscapes.

What language is spoken in Iceland?

The official language is Icelandic, but English is widely spoken, making it easy for travelers to communicate.

What is the food like in Iceland?

Iceland offers a wide variety of food, especially in Reykjavík, where you’ll find high-quality restaurants serving everything from local cuisine to international dishes. Vegetarian and vegan options are also common.

Is there only Icelandic traditional food?

No, traditional Icelandic dishes are not eaten daily by locals and can actually be harder to find than international cuisine.

How much daylight is in Iceland during winter?

Daylight varies depending on the time of year. Around December 21st, the shortest day of the year, there are only about 4 hours of daylight. After that, days gradually become longer.

How many people live in Iceland?

Iceland has a population of about 360,000 people, with most living in Reykjavík and the surrounding capital region.

Can I have internet on my phone in Iceland?

Yes, you can rent a Wi-Fi device or purchase a local SIM card at Keflavík International Airport. Both options provide reliable 4G coverage across much of the country.

What is the weather like in Iceland?

The weather is highly unpredictable. You may experience sun, rain, wind, and even snow all in one day. Summers are generally mild, while winters are cold and often windy. Travel Insurance is also recommended. You can check here.

What type of electrical adapter should I bring to Iceland?

Iceland uses European-style outlets (Type C/F) with a 230V supply. Most modern electronics are compatible, but you may need a voltage converter for certain appliances.

All the details were taken care of. Our tour guide was personable, knows the history and all of the interesting facts, entertaining, and gracious. This is our first tour with Evolution35, but it won’t be our last. We are already planning our next trip to Italy with them.

Our Happy Clients

I was very pleased with the service that I received from evolution35 travel company. Our 9 day trip to Cancún was wonderful time in this beautiful country. The resorts that evolution35 chose for our stay were all wonderful! Evolution35 people was in constant communication with us via email and WhatsApp asking how the trip was going and if we had any concerns or requests and when I did have a request they responded immediately and took care of it. Everything including tours and transportation were taken care of for us so it was very relaxing knowing we did not have to think about anything except when and where we were going next. Evolution35 also worked hard to ensure that we have a wonderful time during our stay in Cancun an that we return home safe. We are planing a trip to Costa Rica with Evolution35 in October.

Our Happy Clients

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there. The Eifel Tower was amazing but felt a little rushed. The dinner on the Seine was excellent. Thank you for a great trip.

We did the Costa Rica trip and it was incredible. Zipline, rainforest, boat rides, catamaran. It
was soooo much trip for the money. Loved the hotel Tabacón with the hot springs and the
Westin was also 5 star! You go from the Carribean side to the Pacific. It's the trip of a
lifetime. Well done evolution35

Our Happy Clients

Fantastic trip to Paris with Evolution 35. Between booking our trip and the time we left, we had lots of questions and they were always so quick to respond to our emails. It was so wonderful that they took care of many details of our trip for us, especially the first couple of days as we were getting oriented in a foreign place! Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. He helped us stay safe and have a lot of fun too! A great experience for us!

Our Happy Clients

¡Gracias!
