Thailand

Language

  • The official language in Thailand is Thai.

Time Zone

  • Thailand is 13 hours ahead of our Salt Lake City mountain time.

Electricity

  • The power plug sockets used in Thailand are Type A, Type B, Type C, Type F and Type O.

Climate

  • Thailand enjoys a tropical climate which is influenced by seasonal monsoon winds. The southwest monsoon (May) brings a stream of warm moist air from the Indian Ocean towards Thailand, causing abundant rain over the country, especially the mountainous regions. Be sure to check the weather on the dates of your travel.

Health

  • Medical insurance is recommended when traveling to Thailand but not required.

Tips

  • Take note that although all tourism workers are paid a fixed salary, tips are used as their main income. It is considerate to tip your tourism workers although it is not required. Tourism workers should only be tipped if exceptional service is provided.

Currency

  • The legal currency in Thailand is the Thai Baht. 1 US dollar is equal to 36.58 Thai Baht (THB).

Water Safety

  • Avoid drinking tap water in Thailand. Stick to bottled or filtered water, which is widely available. Even in restaurants, request bottled water to ensure safety.

Transportation

  • Thailand offers various transportation options including taxis, tuk-tuks, buses, and BTS Skytrain (in Bangkok). Be sure to negotiate the fare before using tuk-tuks, as they don’t use meters. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are also convenient for getting around.

Dress Code

  • When visiting temples, modest attire is required. Cover your shoulders and knees, and avoid wearing revealing clothing. In some temples, you may need to remove your shoes before entering.

Local Etiquette

  • Thai culture places great importance on respect. A traditional greeting is the wai (palms pressed together with a slight bow). It is polite to return a wai when greeted this way. Avoid touching someone’s head or pointing your feet at people or religious objects.

Safety

  • Thailand is generally safe for tourists, but it’s important to stay vigilant in crowded areas and tourist spots to avoid pickpocketing. Be cautious when crossing the streets, as traffic can be unpredictable.

Shopping

  • Haggling is common in markets and street stalls. Don’t be afraid to negotiate for a better price, but always be respectful. In malls and department stores, prices are usually fixed.

National Holidays

  • Plan your trip around major Thai holidays such as Songkran (Thai New Year in April) and Loi Krathong (Festival of Lights in November) if you want to experience unique local celebrations. These holidays may also affect business hours and transportation.

Thailand

Is English widely spoken?

English is commonly spoken in major cities like Bangkok, particularly in business areas, hotels, restaurants, and tourist destinations. In popular travel regions, many locals working in tourism also understand basic English and some European languages.

What are Visa & Entry Rules?

Many travelers can enter Thailand visa-free for 30–60 days, depending on nationality, under visa exemption or bilateral agreements. Your passport should be valid for at least six months. You may also be asked to show proof of onward travel or sufficient funds upon arrival. Check travel requirements here.

What is Proof of Onward Travel?

Airlines or immigration officials may request a return or onward ticket. If your plans are flexible, consider booking a refundable ticket or using a reservation hold service.

Do I need any special vaccinations?

It’s recommended to be vaccinated against Hepatitis A and Typhoid before traveling. Routine vaccinations should also be up to date, especially for children.

Is it safe to drink the water in Thailand?

Tap water is not considered safe to drink. Stick to bottled, boiled, or purified water. Ice in most restaurants is usually made from purified water, but it’s fine to double-check if unsure. Travel Insurance is recommended, check here.

What about the food—how can I avoid getting sick?

Trying local food is part of the experience, but take precautions. Choose busy street food stalls where food is freshly prepared. Avoid items that have been sitting out, and be cautious with raw foods unless you’re at a reputable restaurant. Using hand sanitizer before eating can also help reduce risk.

Should I worry about mosquito bites?

Mosquitoes are common, especially during the rainy season (June–October). While the risk of serious illness is low, diseases like dengue can occur. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves in the early morning and evening, and take extra precautions during wetter months.

What’s the currency in Thailand?

The Thai baht is the official currency. Credit cards are accepted in many places, but cash is essential for street markets, small vendors, and local shops.

What kind of adapter will I need for my electronics?

Thailand uses multiple plug types (A, C, F, and O) with a 220V supply. A universal adapter is recommended, and you may need a voltage converter for certain devices.

Is there Uber in Thailand?

Uber is no longer available. The most popular rideshare app is Grab, which works similarly and is widely used in major cities.

So, what’s the best way to get around?

Transportation depends on your location. Domestic flights are best for long distances. Trains, buses, and ferries connect cities and islands. Within cities, taxis, tuk-tuks, and public transit are common. In Bangkok, the Skytrain (BTS) is one of the most efficient ways to avoid traffic.

What’s the tipping etiquette in Thailand?

Tipping is expected in many situations: Restaurants: Around 10% at sit-down restaurants. Taxis: Round up the fare. Grab: About 10 baht for longer trips. Housekeeping: 50 baht per night, or 100–150 baht for longer stays. Tour guides: Around 150–300 baht. Tipping is appreciated and can enhance service, though it’s not required everywhere.

Can I bargain while I’m shopping?

Yes, bargaining is common in tourist markets and for souvenirs. However, it’s not appropriate in restaurants, food stalls, or regular retail shops. Be respectful when negotiating prices.

Our Happy Clients

I was very pleased with the service that I received from evolution35 travel company. Our 9 day trip to Cancún was wonderful time in this beautiful country. The resorts that evolution35 chose for our stay were all wonderful! Evolution35 people was in constant communication with us via email and WhatsApp asking how the trip was going and if we had any concerns or requests and when I did have a request they responded immediately and took care of it. Everything including tours and transportation were taken care of for us so it was very relaxing knowing we did not have to think about anything except when and where we were going next. Evolution35 also worked hard to ensure that we have a wonderful time during our stay in Cancun an that we return home safe. We are planing a trip to Costa Rica with Evolution35 in October.

Our Happy Clients

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there. The Eifel Tower was amazing but felt a little rushed. The dinner on the Seine was excellent. Thank you for a great trip.

We did the Costa Rica trip and it was incredible. Zipline, rainforest, boat rides, catamaran. It
was soooo much trip for the money. Loved the hotel Tabacón with the hot springs and the
Westin was also 5 star! You go from the Carribean side to the Pacific. It's the trip of a
lifetime. Well done evolution35

Our Happy Clients

Fantastic trip to Paris with Evolution 35. Between booking our trip and the time we left, we had lots of questions and they were always so quick to respond to our emails. It was so wonderful that they took care of many details of our trip for us, especially the first couple of days as we were getting oriented in a foreign place! Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. He helped us stay safe and have a lot of fun too! A great experience for us!

Our Happy Clients

¡Gracias!
