Your Madrid tour itinerary includes a visit to Plaza de España, where you can admire the Monument to Cervantes, the author of the world's greatest novel, Don Quixote. Next, explore the Debod Temple, the oldest monument in the city—an Egyptian temple with more than 2,000 years of history. Stroll through the beautiful Sabatini Gardens before heading to Plaza de Oriente, where you’ll learn an interesting fact: Madrid was founded by Muslims and not by the Romans. A must-see is the Royal Palace, the largest royal palace in Europe, which you shouldn't miss visiting inside, but only after 2 PM. Right next to it stands Almudena's Cathedral, an impressive place of worship. Continue to Calle Mayor, where you’ll find the famous Strawberry Tree, a symbol of Madrid. A hidden gem awaits at Carboneras Convent, where cloistered nuns sell their own handmade sweets. At Plaza de la Villa, you’ll witness the largest architectural footprint of the city. Then, immerse yourself in the gastronomy of Madrid at St. Miguel Market, a market dating back to the end of the 19th century. Walk along Cuchilleros Street, home to the restaurant holding the Guinness World Record as the oldest in the world. The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there.
