Language

  • The official language of Spain is Spanish (Castilian), but regional languages such as Catalan, Galician, and Basque are spoken in specific areas.

Time Zone

  • Spain operates on Central European Time (CET), which is 8 hours ahead of Salt Lake City Mountain Time. Keep in mind that Spain observes Daylight Saving Time, so the time difference may vary slightly during certain months.

Electricity

  • The power plug sockets used in Spain are Type C and Type F, with a standard voltage of 230V. Be sure to bring a universal adapter if your devices use a different plug type.

Climate

  • Spain enjoys a varied climate. The Mediterranean coast (Barcelona, Valencia) has hot summers and mild winters, while inland areas (Madrid) experience more extreme temperatures, with very hot summers and cold winters. The north (Basque Country, Galicia) is cooler and wetter. Always check the weather for your destination and time of travel.

Health

  • No vaccinations are required to enter Spain, but it’s recommended to have travel health insurance to cover medical expenses during your stay. The healthcare system in Spain is excellent, and pharmacies are widely available. https://www.travelexinsurance.com/homepage?location=44-0110&go=bp

Tips

  • Tipping is appreciated but not required in Spain. In restaurants, it's common to leave a small tip of 5-10% if service was good. In cafes and taxis, rounding up the bill is common.

Currency

  • The official currency in Spain is the Euro (EUR). 1 US dollar is approximately equal to 0.94 Euros. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but it’s useful to carry some cash, especially in smaller towns and markets.

Transportation

  • Spain has a well-developed transportation system, including trains, buses, taxis, and metro services in major cities like Madrid and Barcelona. The high-speed AVE trains are great for traveling between cities. Ride-hailing apps like Uber and Cabify are also available.

Dress Code

  • Spain is generally casual, but dress modestly when visiting churches or religious sites. In summer, light and breathable clothing is recommended, while in winter, you'll need warmer layers, especially in northern and inland areas.

Safety

  • Spain is considered a safe country for travelers. However, be aware of pickpockets in tourist areas, especially in cities like Barcelona and Madrid. Always keep an eye on your belongings, particularly in crowded places and on public transport.

Local Etiquette

  • In Spain, greetings involve a handshake or a light kiss on both cheeks (between women, or between men and women). Spaniards tend to dine late, with lunch usually around 2:00 PM and dinner often served after 9:00 PM. When entering shops or restaurants, a friendly "Hola" is appreciated.

National Holidays

  • Spain has many national and regional holidays. Notable ones include Semana Santa (Holy Week) in April, La Tomatina (August), and Fiesta Nacional de España (October 12th). Be aware that some holidays may affect business hours and transportation.

Spain

When is the best time to visit Spain?

The best times to visit Spain are typically March to May and September to November. During these months, the weather is warm, prices are more reasonable, and there are fewer crowds compared to the busy summer season. These periods are great for sightseeing, coastal drives, and wine experiences. Summer (June–August) brings clear skies and lively energy, but also higher temperatures and larger crowds, especially in major cities and along the Mediterranean coast.

How many days should I spend in Spain?

A trip of 8–14 days is ideal for exploring Spain’s main highlights. This allows enough time to visit cities like Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville, relax along the coast, and explore regions such as Andalusia or the Basque Country. Longer trips of more than two weeks can include lesser-known destinations or even nearby countries like Portugal or France.

Should I visit northern or southern Spain?

It depends on your travel preferences: Southern Spain: Known for Moorish heritage, historic cities, and traditional culture. You can explore Seville, visit Córdoba, and see landmarks like the Puente Nuevo in Ronda. Northern Spain: Offers lush landscapes, coastal views, and culinary experiences. Highlights include Barcelona, San Sebastián, and the Rioja wine region. Both regions provide distinct experiences, so your itinerary can be tailored based on your interests.

How do I travel around Spain?

Spain has a wide range of transportation options. By plane: Domestic flights connect major cities quickly. By train: High-speed and regional trains are efficient and scenic. By car: Ideal for exploring rural areas and smaller towns. By bus: Comfortable and affordable for short and long distances. By boat: Useful for traveling between coastal areas or islands.

What food should I try in Spain?

Spanish cuisine blends Mediterranean and Moorish influences, with a strong emphasis on shared dining. Popular dishes include: Paella: A rice dish often made with seafood. Gazpacho: A cold tomato-based soup. Jamón: Dry-cured ham. Patatas bravas: Fried potatoes with spicy sauce. Spanish tortilla: A potato-based omelet. Sangria: A fruit-infused wine drink. Chorizo: A seasoned cured sausage. Manchego cheese: A sheep’s milk cheese. Gambas al ajillo: Garlic shrimp. Pimientos de Padrón: Small green peppers.

Is Spain a good destination for wine?

Yes, Spain is an excellent destination for wine tourism. Regions like La Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Catalonia, and Andalusia produce a wide variety of wines, from bold reds like Tempranillo to refreshing whites such as those made from Macabeo grapes. Wine tours often include tastings, vineyard visits, and regional food pairings.

Do shops close during siesta in Spain?

In many traditional cities such as Seville and Granada, shops may close for a few hours in the early afternoon, typically between 1 pm and 4 pm. However, in larger cities like Barcelona and Madrid, many businesses remain open throughout the day.

Is Spain safe to visit?

Spain is considered a very safe destination with low crime rates. Travelers should still take basic precautions, especially in crowded areas where pickpocketing can occur. Keeping valuables secure and staying aware of your surroundings is recommended. Travel Insurance is recommended, check here.

What language do they speak in Spain?

Spanish (Castilian) is the official language. Other regional languages include Catalan, Basque, Galician, and Aranese. English is widely spoken in major cities and tourist areas, though learning a few basic Spanish phrases can be helpful.

What currency does Spain use?

Spain uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but carrying some cash is advisable, particularly in smaller towns or markets.

Our Happy Clients

I was very pleased with the service that I received from evolution35 travel company. Our 9 day trip to Cancún was wonderful time in this beautiful country. The resorts that evolution35 chose for our stay were all wonderful! Evolution35 people was in constant communication with us via email and WhatsApp asking how the trip was going and if we had any concerns or requests and when I did have a request they responded immediately and took care of it. Everything including tours and transportation were taken care of for us so it was very relaxing knowing we did not have to think about anything except when and where we were going next. Evolution35 also worked hard to ensure that we have a wonderful time during our stay in Cancun an that we return home safe. We are planing a trip to Costa Rica with Evolution35 in October.

- Jose Ruiz

Our Happy Clients

The Paris 99 trip was great. We enjoyed the driving tour of Paris, although we did fall asleep a few times as we were tired from the overnight flight from SLC. Our guide, Pedro, provided excellent information on the history of Paris and the sites we saw. The tour of Versailles was excellent, but we do wish we could have spent a little more time there. The Eifel Tower was amazing but felt a little rushed. The dinner on the Seine was excellent. Thank you for a great trip.

- Richard Leake

Our Happy Clients

We did the Costa Rica trip and it was incredible. Zipline, rainforest, boat rides, catamaran. It
was soooo much trip for the money. Loved the hotel Tabacón with the hot springs and the
Westin was also 5 star! You go from the Carribean side to the Pacific. It's the trip of a
lifetime. Well done evolution35

- Jason Shamy

Our Happy Clients

Fantastic trip to Paris with Evolution 35. Between booking our trip and the time we left, we had lots of questions and they were always so quick to respond to our emails. It was so wonderful that they took care of many details of our trip for us, especially the first couple of days as we were getting oriented in a foreign place! Our tour guide was hilarious and knowledgeable. He helped us stay safe and have a lot of fun too! A great experience for us!

- Jenny Leake

Our Happy Clients

¡Gracias!
